Ward fires Rovers warning

John Ward had some home truths for his Bristol Rovers players following the 1-0 defeat to Accrington at the Memorial Stadium.

Despite allowing Stanley to preserve their Football League status, Rovers were granted a warm reception from a Memorial Stadium crowd basking in their team's resurgence since Ward's return to the dugout. But the manager insists the goodwill will not last should such performances be produced next season. "The players have let themselves and the fans down," he said. "I'm disappointed because it could have been a really good day for us. "The supporters were better than the team. I have told my players that if they perform like that next season they will not get the same sort of reception. "They have got away with it today because of what they have done previously since I returned to the club. I haven't had cause to moan often, but we weren't at the races. "We have to be better than that next season and in our final game at Torquay next Saturday."
