Albion push excites Rowett

Burton boss Gary Rowett admitted he was getting excited after his promotion hopefuls plundered a 1-0 victory over Plymouth.

The Brewers looked destined to surrender crucial points as the encounter spilled into stoppage time - only for substitute Matt Paterson to grab a 94th-minute winner. It leaves third-placed Albion holding a two-point advantage over their rivals heading into the final weekends of the season. Rowett said: "I'm getting a little bit excitable these days, but it's just a great feeling to be where we are. "It's a pleasure to be part of trying to achieve something at the right end of the table after last season's struggles. It's something we can be very proud of. "In the end, we showed great character and that's what it's about. "It doesn't matter whether you score one in the first minute or in the 94th minute. We got there in the end for another unbelievable win in terms of what we're trying to achieve." Paterson came up with the perfect response after being left out of the starting line-up despite a recent run of goals. Rowett admitted: "I think Matt was very disappointed not to start our last game against Wycombe and I know one or two people thought he should be in the side after scoring a few goals recently. But sometimes you've got to have impact off the bench and he's taken the chance that came his way. "We kept going and we kept trying to do the right things even though it wasn't quite happening for us."
