Chesterfield boss Paul Cook saluted his side's resilience after a 1-0 victory at Dagenham - their first win in four games.
The Spireites secured their first away win of 2013 thanks to an early own goal from Abu Ogogo on Saturday.
Cook said: "This is always a tricky place to come to so I'm really pleased to come away with three points.
"It wasn't the prettiest of games but we've shown good heart and resilience and come through a really stern test.
"We could have been a bit more clinical, maybe tested their keeper a little more, but I can't be critical at all after an away victory.
"We knew from the outset it was going to be tough as Dagenham like to get the ball forward quickly and we had to be ready to combat that.
"Getting a goal as early as we did certainly helped ease a few nerves. The players all put a shift in though and we're back on the right track again."
