Roche toasts crucial victory

Image: Barry Roche: Pleased with the win

Morecambe goalkeeper Barry Roche was relieved to take a vital three points off Dagenham before a bumper Globe Arena crowd.

The Shrimps let fans in without charge for Tuesday night's re-arranged npower League Two clash and were rewarded with an attendance of 4,029 - more than double their average gate this season. Goals from Jordan Burrow and Andy Parrish saw Jim Bentley's men come from behind to record a first win in six league matches and move eight points clear of the relegation zone. Roche told Press Association Sport: "The atmosphere aside, we really, really needed three points because the teams at the bottom of the table are starting to win over the last few weeks. "We've been picking up a couple of good draws but a lot of the time that's felt like two points dropped. "So, first and foremost, it was a massive, massive win for us - those three points." Roche was also full of praise for Morecambe's free-ticket initiative and is confident many of those tempted will be back through the turnstiles over the coming weeks. "From the club's point of view, the free-tickets promotion seemed to work a treat," he added. "There was over an extra 2,000 people from our average attendance so the atmosphere was absolutely great. "We played well and it was a good game of football to watch so hopefully a lot of those fans can come back as paying customers."
