Phillips fit for Southend action

Southend defender Mark Phillips has declared himself fit to face Chesterfield at Roots Hall in League Two action on Friday night.

The former Brentford and Millwall centre-back has missed his side's last four matches with a knee problem. However, the 30-year-old is expected to return to training this week and is confident he will be ready for the Spireites clash. "My knee flared up when we went over to train on the 3G pitches, but I've had an injection in it since then and it has responded well to that," Phillips told the Echo. "The little rest I've had has done the knee the world of good and I want to return to training as soon as possible this week. "And I will definitely be available for the Chesterfield game on Friday."
