Sky Sports understands Graham Alexander is set to be named as Fleetwood Town's new manager.
Fleetwood are searching for a new boss following the sacking of Micky Mellon last weekend.
A number of names have been linked with the position at Highbury, but it appears Alexander is at the top of the board's wish-list.
Alexander has a wealth of experience having made over 830 appearances in his club career and he is currently head of youth development at Preston.
The 41-year-old also had a spell as Preston's joint caretaker manager last season following the sacking of Phil Brown.
Talks are thought to be at an advanced stage between Alexander and Fleetwood with the League Two club keen to have a new man on board before this weekend's clash with Southend.
