Sky Sports understands Southend have signed former Swansea midfielder Scott Donnelly.
Donnelly arrives at Roots Hall on a free transfer after leaving Aldershot following the expiry of his short-term deal at the Recreation Ground.
The 24-year-old, who joined Aldershot in September after leaving Swansea, made six appearances during his spell at the League Two club.
Southend have moved to bring in the attacking midfielder on a short-term deal as Paul Sturrock looks to bolster his squad.
Donnelly is set to go straight into the Southend squad for this weekend's clash with Rochdale.
