Manager Micky Mellon has paid tribute to Youl Mawene's impact on Fleetwood's squad in the early months of the season.

Former Derby and Preston centre-back Mawene has been a mainstay at the back as the Cod Army have established themselves among the npower League Two pacesetters. Mellon believes the influence of Mawene along with experienced summer signings such as Damien Johnson, Barry Nicholson and Jon Parkin has been vital in helping other members of his squad acclimatise to their first taste of league football. "Youl's been nothing but fantastic since he came - both on and off the pitch," he said. "He gets annoyed if things don't go the way that he thinks they should go in training. "He has great standards, which I'm sure the other players have seen from such a fantastic player and professional. He's brought that to the club as have some of the other lads - Damien Johnson, Barry Nicholson, Jon Parkin. "They've all brought the standards with them that you need to be able to hit in order to have a sustained period at the levels that they've played at. So it's been very educational for the lads who have not seen that before."
