Blair eyes up midfield role

York striker Matty Blair could be handed an extended run in the side in his new central midfield role.

The 22-year-old, instrumental for the Minstermen as a striker last season, found it difficult to win back his place in the side this time round after missing a large chunk of pre-season through injury. Manager Gary Mills started life back in the Football League by accommodating three forwards in his side - Michael Coulson, Jason Walker and Ashley Chambers - but recalled Blair to his starting line-up in a new role in last weekend's win at Aldershot and kept him there for the midweek defeat to Fleetwood. Mills said: "Blair played in a central midfield role in a recent behind-closed-doors game against Doncaster and did really well there, I think he scored two goals. "So we decided to go with him there at Aldershot and again he was excellent. Matty is a striker, but has used his attributes well in that new role and he's gone and scored the opening goal at Aldershot as well. He's been hungry to get back in and has done well there. We'll see how he gets on."
