Stockdale turns back on Reds

League Two outfit Accrington Stanley have announced that defender Adam Stockdale is set to leave the club by mutual consent.

The 18-year-old came through the club's youth system and signed a first professional contract in the summer. But Stockdale has decided to leave Stanley in order to continue his education by studying for a degree in sports science. "This is a good opportunity for me," he said in a club statement. "The gaffer and I spoke about me having limited chances at the age of 18 at a professional club and I have the opportunity to go to university. "In three years I could be a qualified teacher or sports scientist and at the same time I can be playing part-time football and even playing for the college. As a young footballer, playing games as often as possible is what you want to do. "I'd just like to thank everyone at Accrington Stanley for giving me the chance to play for them and hopefully we'll keep in touch."
