Jones sad to wave Dale goodbye

Captain Gary Jones has decided to turn his back on Rochdale after giving the League Two club 10 years service in the middle of the park.

Jones is the club's all-time record appearance holder and it was not a verdict the 35-year-old midfielder came to lightly as he seeks a new chapter in his career. "This has been a very difficult decision for me as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Rochdale," Jones told the club's official website. "My fondest memories will be of the supporters because we have been through some tough times and some brilliant times too. I'd like to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their support." Chairman Chris Dunphy added: "There is no doubt that we will miss Gary as he has always led by example and is a credit to himself, his family and the club. "We respect his decision to look for a new challenge and he leaves with our blessing and sincere thanks and we wish him all the best for the future."
