Brewster backing from Wassmer

Charlie Wassmer wants Craig Brewster to become Crawley Town's manager on a full-time basis.

Wassmer was publicly criticised by Evans in the wake of September's 6-0 defeat to Morecambe and made just two further appearances under the Scot, who made a surprise departure from the Red Devils last week to take the reigns at League Two counterparts Rotherham. Loan spells with Fleetwood and Dagenham followed for the 21-year-old, who returned to the Crawley starting line-up for Saturday's 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon under caretaker-boss Brewster. "I did not get on with the old manager, he came out personally about me, since then we did not get on together - you don't always gel with people," Wassmer told the Crawley Observer. "The club has got so much potential but I did not see myself as a player here. Like any other club, when someone else comes in you have such a great chance to try again. "Steve Evans had his own way about things and Craig has come in and that's totally different. Hopefully we will get promoted under Craig. If you were to come to the training ground you would see a buzz, everyone has got a lot of respect for Craig, a lot of the boys want him to stay, hopefully he can be manager next year."
