Dons scrap move for Balkestein

AFC Wimbledon boss Terry Brown has revealed that a permanent move for defender Pim Balkestein is unlikely due to the player's wage demands.

The centre-back, who is on loan from League One play-off chasers Brentford, has impressed during his time at Kingsmeadow since moving from Griffin Park last month, helping the Dons all but secure their Football League status for next season. However, Brown admits that he does not expect Balkestein to join the club on a long-term basis, as the Dutchman's salary does not fit in with the club's current wage structure. Brown told the Hounslow Chronicle: "Pim's been brilliant for us and will go back to Brentford once his loan expires on Friday. "We're short of centre-backs so that's an area we're looking to address in the summer. "But we can't afford to match his wages on what he's earning at Brentford at the moment."
