Constable keen to face Robins

James Constable has assured Oxford fans he will not be distracted by the hype surrounding his appearance against Swindon this weekend.

The striker, who netted both goals in the 2-1 victory over the U's' fierce local rivals in August, saw an offer from Swindon accepted for his services during the January transfer window. But Constable refused to negotiate terms with the Wiltshire side, of whom Robins boss Paolo Di Canio had falsely claimed he was a fan earlier this term, and now the 27-year-old has insisted his mind is focused on the job ahead at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday. "I think as a player you have got to ignore the whole surround," he told the Oxford Mail. "When we went to their place, the whole build-up was that I was a fan and things like that. "But I think in those situations you can get too involved and it can go the other way, so you just have to ignore it. "They put an offer in, it wasn't for me and there's no hard feelings - I'm just looking forward to playing many games for Oxford United."
