Boss wants more of the same

Dean Holdsworth praised his Aldershot side after watching them dispose of league leaders Southend 2-0 at the Recreation Ground.

The Shots, 14 places below the Shrimpers before kick-off, triumphed through Adam Mekki and Josh Payne's penalty to record a fourth straight league win. "Southend were top of the league and we matched them - credit to the lads. I'm delighted with the performance and really proud of them," Holdsworth said. "It showed massive desire to perform so well against the best team in the league. Respect to Southend and respect to our players for giving everything they had. "The team is really growing in confidence and there's a team spirit among us. They have done the club proud. When we had a bad spell we made sure the confidence didn't drop. We came through it and it means everything to the players. "We said before the game Adam (Mekki) was due a goal. He makes great decisions for such a young man and he's a player who has a huge future in the game. I look around the dressing room and I'm very excited but we need to be as professional as possible, there's no room for getting excited."
