Gary Simpson hopes the addition of centre-back Ben Futcher will help his Macclesfield side end their dismal run.
Futcher arrived on a three-month loan from Bury on Monday to join an injury-ravaged Silkmen squad that have lost their last seven League Two matches. Simpson coached the 30-year-old earlier in his career at Lincoln and Peterborough and admitted the giant defender was foremost in his thoughts when it became clear highly-rated youngster Shaun Brisley would move to Peterborough. "Once I knew Bris was on the way to Peterborough I've been keen to get in a replacement," he told Macclesfield's official website. "We'd looked at a few options that fell through, but once I knew Futch would be available I was very keen to get him to the club. "It's no secret we've been going through a tough patch since the turn of the year. It's at times like this that you need strength of character to get you through. Futch has that. He knows what it takes to win games at this level and the fact we have him for the rest of the season is a big plus." Meanwhile, Tom Fisher and Vinny Mukendi have returned to Macclesfield following their respective loans with Droylsden and Southport.
