Di Canio demands Robins surge

Paolo Di Canio urged Swindon to keep up the pressure following Tuesday night's 4-1 demolition of League Two promotion rivals Southend.

Three first-half goals from Matt Ritchie, Joe Devera and Jonathan Smith put the Robins in control at Roots Hall before substitute Billy Bodin added a fourth early in the second half. Jean-Paul Kalala's effort that made it 2-1 turned out to be a mere consolation for the Shrimpers as Swindon took second spot to drop Paul Sturrock's men to third on goal difference. "After we played in the FA Cup on Saturday maybe we were not as fresh as Southend, but we worked hard against a side that have had nine days to prepare to play against us," said Di Canio, who celebrated the win on the pitch with his players at the final whistle. "This is what it means to me to be a group. They worked hard with the ball, every time they had the chance to go forward they did and we scored four goals. "We are now close to the top and to win away from home against a team in Southend's position is amazing."
