Swindon Town have had a bid accepted by League Two rivals Oxford United for striker James Constable.

The 27-year-old U's hitman, who has netted nine times in 28 appearances this season, is expected to agree terms on a move to the County Ground in time for the Robins' clash with Macclesfield this weekend.

Swindon saw an approach for the hitman rebuffed by Oxford last week but returned with a fresh offer which was approved by the powers that be at the Kassam Stadium.

A statement on Oxford's official website said: "Oxford United Football Club can confirm they have received a much improved offer from Swindon Town Football Club for James Constable and, after discussions with the player, have given permission for him to talk to the club."
