Jevons pays tribute to Speed

Morecambe striker Phil Jevons has paid tribute to former club-mate Gary Speed, who died on Sunday.

Jevons trained alongside Wales manager Speed at Everton when the Shrimpers forward was starting out in professional football, and the 32-year-old branded his ex-colleague a "model pro." Speed, 42, was found dead in his Cheshire home, leaving Jevons - like the rest of the footballing world - in complete shock. He told the club's official website: "I saw a lot of Gary Speed when I was a youngster at Everton and he was someone everyone looked up to. "He was always held up as a model pro and the coaches always pointed to him and said that he was the type of player we should all look to be. "When I heard the news of his death I was just speechless. He seemed to have everything. He had a great career, had a lovely family and it look like he had a great coaching career ahead of him as well."
