Hope Akpan staked his claim for a recall to the Crawley starting line-up ahead of Saturday's trip to Rotherham with a brace for the reserves.
The former Everton midfielder has been consigned to a place on the bench in recent weeks but gave manager Steve Evans a gentle nudge as Town thumped Sussex neighbours Brighton 5-0.
Crawley were four up at half-time thanks to Akpan's double and further goals from Jon-Paul Pittman and John Akinde, and Michael Doughty added the fifth near the end.
It was a surprise result against a strong Brighton side including first-teamers such as Ashley Barnes, Kazenga LuaLua and Romain Vincelot.
But the visitors could not find a way past former Seagulls keeper Michel Kuipers as they slipped to a heavy defeat.
