Graham Turner is disappointed to have lost Carl Regan to injury again but is confident Shrewsbury's defence can cope.
Shrews boss confident his defence can cope with injury
Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner insists that he has no worries concerning his defence, despite the loss of full-back Carl Regan at the weekend.
The former MK Dons defender limped off with a suspected hamstring injury after just 28 minutes of the Shrews' 1-1 draw at Rotherham on Saturday.
The 31-year-old was making his first appearance for over two months due to a long-term calf injury and Turner says Regan's latest setback is a huge blow to the experienced defender after working so hard to regain fitness.
"He came off in the first half after pulling his hamstring and he knew immediately that it had gone, so there was no point risking further injury," Turner told
skysports.com.
"It is a big blow for the lad because he has put a lot of work in to getting back into the side following his previous injury.
"However, I'm not too concerned about that area, as the back four that played after Regan came off has been the defence for the majority of this season anyway.
"I just felt that Shane (Cansdell-Sherriff) needed a bit of a rest, but obviously he was called for a bit earlier than expected and to be fair to the lad he got us a goal within 20 minutes of coming on."
The Shrews went behind early on after a wonderful strike from Lewis Grabban put the Millers ahead, but Cansdell-Sheriff netted just before the break to earn a share of the points, which delighted the former Hereford boss.
He added: "There wasn't a great amount of quality in the game, but at the same time it was pretty equal, so I can't complain with the end result too much.
"We felt that we had a great call for a penalty in the last minute, but it wasn't to be and at the end of the day it was a good point away from home.
"We've had some bad results away from home recently, at both Southend and Crawley, so to come to a difficult place like Rotherham and earn a point will settle us down a little on our travels."
