Morecambe manager Jim Bentley hailed his players after they earned a 1-1 draw with League Two high-flyers Southend.

Phil Jevons put Morecambe in front in the 53rd minute and was later sent off for shoving Anthony Grant, before Stewart Drummond's own goal salvaged a point for Southend. The draw maintained Morecambe's unbeaten league run away from home and Bentley said: "I'm devastated not to have won but, if you look at the bigger picture, we have gone down to 10 men against the team that were top of the table, so it was a hard-earned point. "Everyone from the back to the front was on top of their game and has defended well. We knew it was going to be a big challenge and I think the lads were up to the challenge. "We knew we would be under pressure for long periods and we would have to get them on the break, which is what we have done. "I told them before the match that the important thing was to stay unbeaten away from home and tighten up, which we have done."
