Scannell backs Daggers to shine

Winger Damian Scannell is confident Dagenham & Redbridge can quickly turn their ailing fortunes around.

The Daggers, relegated to the fourth tier last season, went down to a fifth successive league defeat on Saturday as they lost 2-1 at fellow strugglers Northampton. It represents a far cry from the club's start to the season when they won three and drew one of their opening five games. But winger Scannell remains positive, telling the Barking and Dagenham Post: "We've played against Morecambe and Rotherham, you'd say the best teams in the league, and we've put up a good fight against them. "It's early - three or four wins and you're back up into the play-offs. For quality in the team, we're one of the better teams in the league, we're just not playing well. "After a couple of games I've come in and felt down, but I think we can take a lot of positives out of Saturday. I don't like to use the word luck, so it's been unfortunate." Meanwhile, a Daggers side made up of first-team and academy players drew 4-4 against a similar West Ham outfit on Tuesday afternoon, with substitute Dwight Gayle grabbing a brace along with goals from DJ Green and Gavin Tomlin.
