Morecambe boss Jim Bentley praised his table-topping side after defeating Dagenham 2-1 with goals from Danny Carlton and Stewart Drummond.
The Shrimps extended their unbeaten run in League Two to eight games with a battling victory, although they were made to sweat as the home side staged a late revival after Oliver Lee's 73rd-minute goal brought them back into the game.
Bentley said: "It's superb to be at the top and the lads have been magnificent but we all know there is a long, long way to go and we are just taking every game as it comes.
"This was always going to be a tough game for us because Dagenham are a tough side to beat on their home patch. But we looked solid and when we got to 2-0 up we should really have been able to see the game out.
"But they got back into it with a free kick that shocked us a bit and they really went for it late on but we hung on and it was another excellent win for us."
