Morecambe chief executive Rod Taylor has lauded boss Jim Bentley for leading the club to the League Two summit.
The Shrimps are on a seven-game unbeaten run and showed their promotion credentials by thumping high-flying Crawley 6-0 on Saturday.
Taylor told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I can't say that we saw it coming but its been a great start. Everyone is working hard and it's a real bonus.
"Jim was a brave choice but he was absolutely the right choice, he was the stand out candidate.
"The boys have based themselves at Morecambe, Jim's ensured that training is locally and at the Globe Arena at times to make it feel like home."
