Morecambe midfielder Craig Stanley insists he joined League Two rivals Torquay for "purely football reasons".

Stanley, whose contract at the Globe Arena expires at the end of the season, is at the Gulls on an initial one-month loan deal and insists there has been no fall-out with Shrimps boss Sammy McIlroy. He said: "A lot of Morecambe fans have texted me and put two and two together and got 22. "People seem to think that the manager and I have fallen out but that simply isn't the case. "I moved for purely football reasons. I was told that I might be out of the side for a few games and Torquay were interested in me just before deadline day. I'm out of contract in the summer and I need to be playing and showing what I can do. "It seems strange to be one of the oldest players in the squad at my age but there are some really good young players and I'm enjoying it. I'm here for a month initially and we'll just see what happens after that."
