Simon Whaley is hoping to secure an extended contract at Doncaster Rovers after joining the Championship club until January.
The 25-year-old struggled with injury during the latter stages of last season, resulting in a small operation during the summer following his departure from Chesterfield.
After a few weeks of rehabilitation, Whaley spent last week training with Doncaster and signed in time to make the bench for the victory against Portsmouth at the weekend.
Whaley told
skysports.com: "I went to Doncaster last Monday and on Friday they signed me until the end of the year.

"I'm made up. Hopefully I can repay that faith with some good performances and take it from there.
"I'd love to sign a longer deal in the New Year, but for now I'm happy to be here and get back to playing football.
"Doncaster have made some major strides over the past few seasons and I'm confident I can help them continue to do well."
Whaley joined Norwich from Preston last summer, however, when Paul Lambert replaced Bryan Gunn early on in the campaign, the wide-man did not fit in to the new manager's plans and found himself on loan at Rochdale and Bradford.
Norwich and Whaley then agreed to terminate his contract and the player saw out the campaign at Chesterfield before he suffered a recurrence of his knee injury while on trial at Bury in pre-season.
Despite this setback, the Bolton-born player had a successful operation and, following a number of weeks on his own in rehabilitation, he was given the all clear to train fully.
He added: "After working hard on building my fitness and strength up after my operation the specialist said I'm ready to play again, so it's great to have signed for Doncaster because it makes all of the hard work worthwhile."
