Torquay captain Nicky Wroe has been placed on the transfer list, Gulls boss Paul Buckle has confirmed.

Wroe was left out of Saturday's League Two clash at Crewe on Saturday and Buckle revealed the former York midfielder is free to leave the club after he rejected a new contract.

Buckle told the club's official website: "This hasn't been a knee-jerk reaction. I decided last week to speak to Nicky and inform him that he was going to be transfer-listed and I explained to him the reasons for my decision.

"Nicky turned down a contract offer a few months ago for good reasons from his point of view, he wanted to see where the club was going and I respected his decision, but I do feel that his form has suffered since then."

He added: "This decision does also tie in with the budget restrictions, because I need to reshuffle the pack now to help the team progress.

"Nicky Wroe is a saleable asset to the club, there is no doubt about that, and we will be looking for a transfer fee for him."
