Stockport's George Donnelly believes he is reaping the benefits of his father's advice after his matchwinner at Oxford.

Striker Donnelly, 22, who is on loan from Plymouth, scored his fifth goal in seven league games in the 41st minute to give Paul Simpson's improving side a 1-0 victory at the Kassam Stadium. The former Liverpool trainee said: "Liverpool let me go when I was 17 and I got a job in a clothing warehouse. "But my dad, George, told me never to give up, so I joined Skelmersdale United, got 36 goals in half a season and Plymouth spotted me. "I'm on loan with Stockport until January but things are looking up now."
