Brentford manager Andy Scott is hoping to ease the pain of missing out on Nicky Adams by luring Pim Balkestein back to Griffin Park.
Leicester midfielder Adams stung the Bees earlier this month when he turned down a move to London in order to stay and battle for his place at the Walkers Stadium under new boss Paulo Sousa.
Scott has now turned his attention to bringing defender Balkestein, who joined Brentford on loan from Ipswich last season, back to the club for a second spell.
"Leicester have got a new manager and Nicky decided he could get a chance under him," Scott told the Staines Guardian. "He couldn't get in the side last year and thinks it will be different this time around.
"If it doesn't work out for him it is unlikely we will go back. It didn't happen this time and we move on."
Dutchman Balkestein is currently on trial at German side Fortuna Dusseldorf, although Scott has been holding talks with the player's agent.
"We are still talking to Pim and his agent. He is on trial and there is nothing we can do apart from wait to see what happens."
