Defender aiming for Home Park comeback

Defender Tony Capaldi is keen to get back into regular first-team football and is hoping he can do so at Plymouth. The 28-year-old, who was released by Cardiff City at the end of last season, is currently on trial with Pilgrims after enjoying a successful spell at Home Park between 2003 and 2007. Capaldi, who made his first return outing for Argyle in their 1-0 pre-season friendly win against Dutch outfit NAC Breda on Saturday, is looking to earn a permanent deal with the club during the remainder of their tour of the Netherlands this week. And the Northern Ireland international is eager to start playing regular football again after a frustrating campaign last term.

Chance

"I had a chance to leave (Cardiff) in January. I had a couple of clubs lined up, but the gaffer (Dave Jones) turned around and told me I couldn't go," Capaldi told This Is Plymouth. "They were under a transfer embargo and couldn't sign any players. "I had to see it out until the end of the season but, to be honest, I had to leave. "I want to go somewhere and start playing football again. I'm 28 now and you don't know how long you have got left in the game. "If it's at Plymouth, brilliant. If not, I will look elsewhere next week and see what we can sort out." Capaldi, who signed for Bluebirds on a Bosman transfer from Argyle in 2007, admits he has some work to do on his fitness. "It was my first training session the other day and my first game, so I'm not fit or sharp yet," he said. "But it was good to get 45 minutes under my belt and we will see what happens from here.
Impression
"When we get back, I will sit down with the gaffer and we will have a chat. "I have had a few offers to go to clubs but nothing overly appealing. We are getting close to the start of the season and when you are out of contract you want to get something sorted. "I want to make sure I'm fit first, that's the most important thing for myself this week, and try to make a bit of an impression."
