Bury have released David Buchanan after the defender stalled over contract talks.
The 27-year-old, a product of the club's youth system, made 206 appearances for the Shakers after signing at Gigg Lane in 2005.
Boss Alan Knill expressed his frustration with the defender after attempts to agree a new deal fell through.
"We have constantly tried to get in touch with David but have heard nothing back," Knill told Bury's official website.
"We've tried to get in contact with him for a whole month but there has been no communication whatsoever.
"It's ridiculous, it only takes a phone call but we haven't had any so I had to go out and sign a left-back.
"Joe Skarz is young and ambitious and he asked me if he was going to be playing, he had plenty of other offers. I told him yes, he would be playing."
