Up To £30 Free Matched Bet understands League Two side Shrewsbury Town have taken goalkeeper Ben Smith on trial.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper was released by Doncaster Rovers at the end of the season, having moved to the club in 2006.

Smith has also had loan spells at Lincoln City and Morecambe, and played three games for the Shrimps last term.

The former Newcastle trainee has now been given the chance to impress at New Meadow, and has an opportunity to earn a contract.

Shrewsbury finished League Two in 12th position last season, as dreams of a play-off finish faded towards the back end of the campaign.
