Accrington Stanley remain hopeful of agreeing a new contract to keep Leam Richardson at the club.
The 30-year-old, who played just three games last season due to injury, has been training with Stanley throughout the summer and could be offered a pay-as-you-play deal.
Stanley's assistant boss Jimmy Bell has confirmed talks are ongoing with the right-back, but conceded an agreement is still some way off.
"We are in discussions," Bell told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"We are still some way apart in terms of length of contract and money, and because of his injuries we are still looking at a pay-as-you-play deal.
"But we're hopeful something will be sorted."
