Club unable to meet goalkeeper's contract demands

Macclesfield allowed goalkeeper Jon Brain to depart because they could not meet his contract demands. Brain left Moss Rose at the end of last season, leaving Jose Veiga as the Silkmen's only shot-stopper for the coming campaign. Manager Gary Simpson was keen to retain the services of Brain but was forced to admit defeat. He said: "I wanted Jon to stay. He did really well for us last season and the combination of both him and Jose was a situation I was very comfortable with. "However, having spoken to Jon it was clear that we couldn't meet his demands both in terms of the sort of money he was after and the length of contract. "For now I am more than happy should I decide to make Jose first choice. He is also very committed and desperate to make the most of his chance."
