Kevin Nicholson has committed his future to Torquay by signing a new two-year deal.
The Derby-born left-back, 29, was a star performer as the Gulls achieved a record-breaking run-in at the end of the season.
His return to the starting XI on 3rd April coincided with the start of an eight-match unbeaten run, including six wins and seven clean sheets.
United went 691 minutes without conceding a goal after beating Shrewsbury 2-1 at home.
Nicholson, who has already been at Plainmoor for three seasons, has made 112 appearances for Paul Buckle's Gulls, scoring four times.
