Defender delighted with unbeaten run

Northampton Town defender Peter Gilbert believes they can make a push for promotion on the back of their unbeaten run. The Cobblers are currently nine games undefeated and are just five points off the play-off places in 13th spot. The unbeaten run has been built on a superb defensive record with Ian Sampson's men conceding only five goals in those nine games. Gilbert, who joined Northampton in November, has helped the side go on their unbeaten run and he believes promotion is not out of their grasp with a lot still to play for this season "I believe the hard work of the manager and the players is paying off with the unbeaten run we have been on," Gilbert told skysports.com. "We have kept five clean sheets in this run and we have picked up some really good results during a busy period. "As a defender you pride yourself on keeping clean sheets and that has been very pleasing. "It has given us the platform to go and win these games and the hard work is paying off for everyone. "We are in a good position now and the play-offs are within touching distance now. "We have a busy period coming up next week and if we can keep this run going there is no reason why we cannot make a late charge for promotion."
