Relegation-threatened Grimsby Town have released a quartet of players as they bid to maintain their Football League status.

Danny North, Jamie Clarke, Danny Boshell and Matt Heywood have all had their contracts cancelled at the club who are mired in relegation trouble in League Two and currently sit five points adrift of safety.

North, who came through the ranks at Blundell Park, made over 80 appearances in just over five-and-a-half years with the League Two club.

A brief statement on the club's official website read: "We would like to wish Danny all the best for the future."

Clarke and Boshell, who signed contact extensions last summer, have barely featured under new boss Neil Woods.

Clarke last played in the 1-1 home draw with Dagenham on 5th December while Boshell's final game came in the shock FA Cup loss to Bath at Blundell Park on 7th November.

Heywood, who signed a two-year deal in the summer of 2008 after joining from Brentford, has made just one appearance this term - in the 4-0 defeat at Port Vale in September.
