York reject offer for in-form striker

York City have turned down an offer from League Two strugglers Grimsby Town for striker Richard Brodie. The Mariners are in the market for attacking reinforcements and have already seen a six-figure bid for Accrington Stanley's Michael Symes rejected. Brodie, who has previously been linked with Peterborough United, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town, is also a target for Grimsby. However, Blue Square Premier side York have knocked back the Mariners' approach, with the bid falling well short of their valuation. Community and communications director Sophie Hicks told the York Evening Press: "We were verbally approached by Grimsby Town for Richard Brodie. "Nothing was received in writing - it was just a verbal conversation between Grimsby's chairman and ours, Jason McGill. "Their offer was nowhere near our valuation of Richard Brodie. Let's just say some people's idea of significant is different."
