Southend trialist Scott Spencer made a big impression by scoring twice for the Shrimpers' reserves.

Former Toffees striker pitches up at Roots Hall

Free agent Scott Spencer has made a favourable impression on trial at Southend having scored twice for the club's second string. Former Everton striker Spencer is currently with Rochdale but has made just four substitute appearances this season and is attempting to earn a contract at Roots Hall. The 20-year-old said: "I'd love to join Southend." Another trialist, Barton Rovers defender Lee Wilson, also played the full 90 minutes in the 3-2 win over Essex rivals Colchester. And in a further boost for manager Steve Tilson, defender Osei Sankofa made his comeback having been out since October due to a knee injury.
