Macclesfield Town defender Hamza Bencherif is facing two months on the sidelines after suffering a broken ankle against Rochdale.
Bencherif, who is hoping to break into Algeria's squad for the World Cup, was hurt by a challenge from Jason Kennedy in Macclesfield's 3-0 defeat on Saturday.
He is due to undergo an operation on the ankle, with Silkmen boss Keith Alexander unhappy with the tackle from Kennedy.
Alexander said: "The lad's 20 years old and he's got a chance of probably featuring for Algeria in the World Cup squad with people watching him, but then you get a tackle like that.
"You can say well, that's football, but it's not acceptable to me."
Club physio Nick Reid added: "It's not as bad an injury as it might have been.
"We can expect Hamza to make an uneventful recovery, but he's obviously going to be out of the game for a couple of months or so."
