Goalkeeper Wayne Brown believes manager Alan Knill's honesty has been key to getting Bury through their injury crisis.
The Shakers have had a host of first-team players in the treatment room over recent weeks and the club had limited resources for loan signings.
Knill was up front with his remaining players and Brown reckons that boosted the team's resolve, with Saturday's 3-3 draw against Notts County stretching their unbeaten league run to nine matches.
Brown told
skysports.com: "The manager's come in and said 'listen, we've got no money. We haven't much finance to bring players in so it's just you boys in the changing room - you've got to go and do it yourselves', and we've done it.
"We've just stuck together really. It must be frustrating for Alan because we were down to 12 professionals at one point and you can see us getting more tired every week."
Long season
After weeks of looking for a suitable loan signing, Knill struck a deal with Blackpool last Friday to take striker Daniel Nardiello for a month.
Fit-again Andy Morrell has further eased Knill's personnel problems by returning for his first start of the season on Saturday, and he and Nardiello both scored to keep Bury in ninth place - just one point off the play-offs.
"I think all we need is a couple of players to keep us up there," Brown added.
"Alan and the board have brought Danny Nardiello in and it's nice to have Andy Morrell come back.
"Andy Bishop seems to be going well with his rehab so hopefully he won't be too far after.
"It feels like a long season already - it feels like at least December - but we're not even there yet. We've just got to keep our heads down and get through it."
