Morecambe have signed Darren Moss on a two-year deal after he rejected the offer of a one-year contract to remain at Shrewsbury.
The defender made 223 appearances for the Shrews over two spells but turned down their offer of a new contract at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old has a wealth of experience under his belt since starting his career at Chester in 1998.
After moving to Shrewsbury in June 2001 Moss saw his good form rewarded with a move to Crewe in March 2005 where he featured in the Championship and League One following their relegation in his first season at the club.
"Darren is a very experienced defender at this level and I am delighted that he has agreed a move to Christie Park," Shrimps manager Sammy McIlroy told the
club's official website.
"He will be an excellent addition to the squad."
Change of heart
Meanwhile Morecambe have missed out on striker Curtis Allen despite the 21-year-old being expected to undergo a medical with the League Two club on Monday.
The frontman, who currently plays for Northern Ireland side Lisburn Distillery, has decided to stay in his homeland and join Linfield instead.
"It is disappointing," vice-chairman Graham Hodgson said. "We had agreed everything and it came as a bit of a shock when we heard he had signed for someone else.
"We know these things happen but it obviously doesn't help us. But we will begin to look at other options and when one door closes another one opens and we will be doing all we can to bring more quality players like Darren Moss to Christie Park for the new season."
