Defender to leave Spotland

Rochdale defender Simon Ramsden looks to have played his last game for the club after manager Keith Hill revealed he has accepted a more lucrative contract elsewhere. The right-back, 27, arrived at Spotland from Grimsby in January 2006 and made a total of 124 appearances for the club, scoring six goals. Hill has not disclosed the identity of Ramsden's new club but still paid a rich tribute to the outgoing defender. Hill, who aims to recruit a new right-back and a goalkeeper, told the club's official website: "I believe that Simon has taken up the option to sign for another club and that will be fully disclosed to the public at a later stage. "He has been offered a deal at another club that goes way beyond our financial restrictions. As well as a colleague he is a friend and I do genuinely wish him all the best. "I know that it was a difficult decision for him to make because he has been very happy here but I can fully understand his reasons."
