Darlington striker Gregg Blundell believes the Quakers are still capable of snatching a play-off spot.

Quakers striker keeping the faith

Darlington striker Gregg Blundell hopes the play-off hopefuls, who were dealt a blow last week when they were handed a ten-point deduction for falling into administration, can follow the example set by Bournemouth and Luton and bounce back from the setback in positive fashion. The Quakers are currently ten points adrift of the play-off pack, but they do have two games in hand over most of their promotion-chasing rivals. With that in mind, Blundell believes the Cherries' remarkable comeback from their 17-point deduction at the start of the season should give Dave Penney's men inspiration to keep fighting. "It was worse for them (Luton) because they've had to get the points on the board before their safety was secured, so it showed how good a squad they have there and how much character the side has," Blundell told skysports.com. "Bournemouth are also showing a bit of a fight again having looked destined for the drop, so those two sides are good examples of what points deductions can do to boost morale in a way because it makes you stick together more for the cause I think. "We are the same group of players that were looking like one of the strongest sides to go up automatically earlier in the week, so in that aspect we just have to keep working as hard as we have done all season when we get on the pitch." Unfortunately, Blundell will not be able to contribute to the cause on the pitch as he looks to be sidelined for most of the remainder of the season through injury, which he revealed has been most frustrating. "Unfortunately my operation has ruled me out for virtually the rest of the season, although I may be able to feature for the last few games," he added. "It is frustrating not to be able to get involved with the lads, especially considering the current circumstances. We want to show that we can fight back from the points deduction and still go up this season."
