Dagenham's prolific striker Paul Benson is set for two months on the sidelines with a knee injury.
The 28-year-old is the club's top scorer this season with 13 League Two goals to his name.
His fine form has helped fire the Daggers to the fringes of the play-offs, with only two points separating John Still's side from the promotion-chasing pack.
The news that Benson must now undergo surgery in an effort to cure his ailment could not have come at a worse time, but assistant boss Terry Harris is optimistic that the striker will be back in action before the end of the season.
He told the Ilford Recorder: "Paul will have an operation on a knee problem, it has to be done, so he'll do it and then concentrate on his rehab."
