Weir-Daley and Smith released

League Two outfit Notts County have agreed to release Spencer Weir-Daley and Jay Smith. The duo have seen their contracts terminated by mutual consent following a meeting with Magpies chairman John Armstrong-Holmes. Former Nottingham Forest trainee Weir-Daley joined the club in 2007, settling back on Trentside after loan spells at Macclesfield, Lincoln and Bradford. Smith arrived at Meadow Lane in November 2006 and made 60 appearances for the club. The pair follow in the footsteps of Paul Mayo and Neil MacKenzie, who had their contracts terminated last week. County boss Ian McParland told the club's official website: "I want to freshen things up. "I let a couple go last week and I just thought it was time to let a couple more go. "It's leaving me a bit thin but I want to bring some new blood into the squad. "They (Smith and Weir-Daley) have been in and out of the team and it gives them a chance to go and get another club."
