Shrewsbury Town have confirmed midfielder Kevin McIntyre suffered a double fracture in his right leg against Port Vale at the weekend
The 31-year-old former Macclesfield man picked up the knock in the first half of their 1-1 draw before eventually being helped off the pitch after the interval.
It had been thought McIntyre only suffered a calf injury, but further investigation revealed he has actually suffered a double fracture of the right fibula.
Manager Paul Simpson is unsure how long McIntyre will spend out of action and is seeking a specialist's opinion on the matter, although he is facing at least three months before thinking of resuming training.
"It's a big blow for Kevin and for us as he's been doing well for us recently," Simpson told the club's official website.
"We will have a better idea of the long-term prognosis once we've seen the specialist and will have a better understanding how it will affect us."
