Shrewsbury manager Paul Simpson is on the lookout for a central midfielder in the transfer window to fill his side's problem position.
Simpson has signed three players on loan to try and fill the void in the middle of the park with Leyton Orient's Sean Thornton, Reading's Gyfli Sigurdsson and West Brom's Joss Labadie all featuring for the Shrews this season.
After impressing in the position Thornton and Sigurdsson were recalled early by their clubs while Labadie, the latest recruit to sign on, returned to the Baggies following just one game after suffering a stress fracture.
Simpson is now keen to replace the Baggies youngster and sign yet another midfielder this month as his side look to continue their push for promotion.
"It's an area we are looking to bring someone in for," Simpson said.
"But they've got to be the right ones and improve our squad because I'm not prepared to bring players in just for the sake of it.
Troublesome
"It's been a troublesome area for us all season really, having brought in Sean Thornton and Gyfli Sigurdsson came in from Reading and we are constantly looking for players who can improve us.
"Hopefully we can bring someone in before the end of January."
Even though the former Preston and Carlisle boss has signed former Everton forward Nick Chadwick after he was released from Hereford last week he admits that he is still on the lookout for another striker.
"Nick got released the one day and signed for us the next day," he added.
"I don't really know what happened at Hereford, but he is a player that I have had my eye on for a while and I think he can bring some qualities to the squad.
"He's a target man with good movement and I think he will get goals for us.
"He was something I wanted to add but it doesn't mean that we are happy with all the striking options available to us and if I could get another one in before the window closes then I will."
