Irish defender hoping to impress Mullen
Walsall have offered a trial to Richie Byrne, with the defender currently available as a free agent.
The 27-year-old is expected to feature for the Saddlers' reserve side in a Birmingham Senior Cup tie at Solihull Moors on Tuesday.
The Irishman is on the lookout for a new club after recently being released by Walsall's League One rivals Oldham at the conclusion of a short-term deal.
He began his career in his homeland with Shamrock Rovers, before spending five years in Scotland taking in spells at Dunfermline and Aberdeen.
Pedigree
He recently underwent a short trial period at SPL outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle, before catching the eye of Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen.
"Richie is a player who has been on my radar for a little while," Mullen told the Express and Star.
"He can play full-back and centre-back and has a decent pedigree.
"Tonight is a good opportunity to see him in action."
